Busy Work or Just Boring Work?

Not every assignment can a blast, sorry kids, but it’s true, some things, just suck. I try very hard to really engage my kids with anything and everything I can, but some work will be hard, some work will be difficult, hell that’s why they call it work. I think we as parents and teachers should try to find that balance and explain the difference between the necessarily evil, boring work, and the useless busy work. Psychology Today just ran a really interesting article on this very topic. It’s worth your time to take a read. Here.

On a side not I’ve been swamped doing a few course design projects and have been deliberately limiting my time at the computer, which is why the posts have been sparse. I think I’ll be coming up for air next month and back to weekly posting.

I finally broke down and bought Camtasia. I’ve been teaching online or at least blending my classes for about five years now and have managed to avoid actually paying for most design tools. I’ve told you about Jing and Voki and sliderocket before, all great tools, and all free, but they can’t do everything you need.

Another resoucre I use is give away of the day. Every day they email a free program to everyone on their mailing list. You can take a look at the day’s free program and decide if it’s something you need. Usually it’s not something I need, however when it is it’s free. I guess a few times a month they offer a program that does help me. Today I downloaded a jpg to pdf converter.

Right now I’m designing an online class and needed a way to take my graphic rich lessons and let my students use the on their e-reading device of choice. The program I got today allows me to do just that.

As far as my Camtasia purchase I started the blog post with. I hit a point where what I wanted to do with videos and what I could do with the freeware just didn’t line up anymore, and I needed to upgrade. Jing got my hooked to the point I had to buy Camtasia. I guess Jing is a gateway program.

Any way here’s a link to give away of the day.
